5th Grade Trip Info
Each student does not necessarily need to bring all the items listed on the information sheet (sunscreen, etc.), if they coordinate with other students/chaperones ahead of time.
Cards and other games are encouraged instead of phones for the bus ride, so that the kids can connect with one another. Although kids who bring phones will be allowed to text on their parents/guardians on the ride home, the teachers will send a text from the bus on the way home to provide updates on expected arrival time. If your child does bring a phone, consider switching it to low battery mode, so that they have enough power left to send you a message if needed.
Although the park does have pools and watersports, PS 261 students will not have access to those sections of the park for safety reasons. It is not necessary for the kids to bring swimsuits, or for any disposable cameras or other gear to be waterproof.
There will be a nurse on site at the park, and the teachers will have first aid kits as well.
Finally, please explain to the kids that if they get separated from their chaperone, they must be with an adult at all times. (The teachers will remind the students of this as well, but it helps if you can tell them before the trip also.)
For the chaperones: There will be a master list of cell phones. If one of the students in your group wants to switch and hang out with another group, please make sure the other group’s chaperone is aware.
